Wrong Decision

We are servants of the Most High God and He has the right to tell us what to do.
When He told Jonah to go to Nineveh, He was saying, “Do what I tell you to.”
When one of my sons didn’t like something I told him to do, he said, “Dad, this isn’t a very democratic way to run this family.” Then I reminded him that in our home he didn’t live in a democracy; he lived in a benevolent dictatorship.
I think God was teaching Jonah another lesson besides obedience: that God loves all of His creation, the good and the bad.
Jonah suspected when God sent him to Nineveh that He was going to forgive the Ninevites, and Jonah didn’t want to go. Instead, he chose another direction and suffered for it.
So, God taught Jonah two lessons: “Do what you are told.” And “I get to decide who is forgiven and who isn’t.”
“When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it” (Jonah 3:10).
