A Biblical Financial Philosophy

Do you have a biblical financial philosophy?

In I Chronicles 29:11-12, David prayed a beautiful prayer. The Living Bible Translations reads like this: Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything. Riches and honor come from you alone, and you are the ruler of all mankind; your hand controls power and might, and it is at your discretion that men are made great and given strength.”

David acknowledged that God owns everything. That’s a major paradigm shift – a change of philosophy – from acquiring the world to being a manager or a steward for the Lord. Second, he adores God because He’s in control. He has Sovereign rule over our lives. Now doesn’t that reality reduce your stress and make you breathe a little easier? Think about your personal circumstances: your job, your boss, your income, and your career. Thank God that He’s in control. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to work. Far from it. Our part is to be faithful to work, God’s part is to be faithful to provide, but as we work, we should be able to praise God and proclaim, like David, “We adore you as being in control of everything!” I can rest from my striving, worrying, comparing, and complaining about what I have or do not have. God, the maker of the Universe, is in charge. I memorized this beautiful passage years ago and it changed my life. Give it a try!
