Advice For Financial Storms

Are you experiencing a financial storm?

Financial challenges can be like small, temporary storms. Perhaps a few past due bills, the job’s not going well or you’ve been laid off, but sometimes the storms are more like earthquakes and they feel devastating: insurmountable hospital bills, an injury that prevents you from working, or bankruptcy, and the challenge of starting over. If you’re going through one of those storms, know that it’s an opportunity to trust God like never before, and here’s my advice.

First, record the problem in a journal. Keep it between you and the Lord. Describe your circumstances in detail, expressing any fears, worries, and doubts. Next, write down a specific prayer request. Tell the Lord your need and your willingness to trust Him day by day, regardless of what happens. Finally, memorize this beautiful passage from Habakkuk 3:17-19:

Though the fig tree does not bud

and there are no grapes on the vines,

though the olive crop fails

and the fields produce no food,

though there are no sheep in the pen

and no cattle in the stalls,

yet I will rejoice in the Lord,

I will be joyful in God my Savior.

The Sovereign Lord is my strength;

he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,

he enables me to tread on the heights.

This is your opportunity to grow in character and to see the faithfulness of God in your life. Don’t fear tomorrow. Walk in faith day by day. Put an action plan in place and resolve to solve the problem. The Lord will carry you through the storm.
