Avoiding Boredom
Are you often bored?
A study conducted by the American Psychological Association reveals that “swiping through online videos to relieve boredom can actually make you more bored and less satisfied or engaged with the content.” We know from previous research that smartphone use increases boredom and distracts from enjoying the company of others. Other studies link depression and anxiety with social media, phones, and boredom. Can I offer an alternative to vegging out on videos? Improve your heart and mind by reading great books. Start with the Bible. Challenge yourself to read it cover to cover. Read it and listen to it. Study It. Memorize sections of it. Immerse yourself in it to understand who your Savior is and you’ll discover who YOU were meant to be. It’s far from boring! You’ll learn that you’ve been entrusted with much. Instead of wasting your life away in boredom, ask God to impress upon your heart the need to discipline yourself with the time He’s given you.
Use time to sort out your finances. Track your spending and create a workable budget. Are you overspending? See where you can cut back or find ways to earn more income. Behind in giving? Make it a priority to faithfully support your church, this radio station, and ministries that encourage your walk with Christ. Want to save more? Set short and long-term goals, then fund an emergency account by spending wisely. Soon you’ll be investing and multiplying your income. Life is not boring when you live it God’s way!
