Crazy Money! Advertising Expenditures
It’s Crazy Money Day!
The Apostle John instructed us not to “…love the world nor the things in the world…. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life is not from the Father, but is from the world.” (1 John 2:15-16) We live in an age where companies spend unbelievable amounts of money to create a desire for the very things we’ve been warned to avoid. The U.S. ad industry revenue was expected to grow to a record high of $352 billion dollars last year. No wonder credit card debt has become a problem. Historically, television has been the largest advertising medium in the United States. In fact, with 115 million viewers that watched the Super Bowl, it’s no wonder companies spent $7 million dollars for a 30-second commercial. However, people are spending more and more time online–especially on phones. Currently, 63% of U.S. ad expenditures are on the Internet. That share is expected to surpass 68% by 2026.
Technology is changing the landscape of advertising and media giants are getting hammered by TV ad market declines. Advertisers have discovered a captive online audience, and they sell everything imaginable. Young and old fall victim to the marketing of shoes music, movies, and sex. Resist the extravagance and foolish sensuality advertised by the world. God wants to fill the desires of our hearts. Only He can truly satisfy.
And if creative advertising led you to credit card debt, Christian Credit Counselors will help. They’ll create a debt management plan just for you. For more information call the Crown Helpline: 800-722-1976 or visit online at crown.org/ccc.
