Crazy Money! Another Ponzi Scheme

It’s Crazy Money Day! 

How would you feel if you lost your retirement in a Ponzi scheme? Recently, nearly 200 people, many of them older Christians, were swindled out of more than $31 million. According to The Christian Post, “Doc” Gallagher was found guilty in 2021 and sentenced to 3 life sentences in prison plus another 30 years behind bars on multiple charges. He called himself the “money doctor” with a mission to help people find financial peace. He advertised on Christian radio and visited churches. His mistress, Debra Mae Carter, was also sentenced to life for her part in the scheme. After a 2-week trial in Tarrant County, Texas, she was found guilty of money laundering. So much for their crazy plan of retiring on a huge ranch together!

The Apostle Paul warned and charged Timothy, his son in the faith, with these powerful words: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6: 9-12
