Crazy Money! Fifty Dollar Van Gogh
It’s Crazy Money Day!
Here’s a story for all you treasure hunters. In 2016, an antique collector spotted an oil painting at a garage sale. It depicted a white-bearded fisherman wearing a brown hat and dangling a pipe from his mouth while repairing a fishing net. It was signed by ELIMAR and purchased for $50. In 2019, the painting was sold to LMI for an undisclosed sum of money. After 4 years of research by leading art historians and scientists, a 450-page report concludes that it’s actually an original Van Gogh! The painting will be showcased to Van Gogh scholars and art experts in the coming months. They estimate that the $50 painting is worth 300,000 times its garage sale price – about $15 million. Now that is crazy!
Treasure hunting can be fun. Just remember, precious finds don’t compare to the wisdom hidden in Christ. In fact, Solomon, the richest man who ever lived, wrote this in Proverbs 2:
“My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.”
