Crazy Money! Treasure Found in Norway

It’s Crazy Money Day!

51-year-old Erelend Bore was advised by his doctor to get more exercise. So, he purchased a metal detector and started walking. One day, he was exploring a farmer’s hillside in his homeland of Norway. He was about to head home, when all of a sudden, the detector began beeping. He unearthed what he described as “totally unreal.” What initially appeared to be chocolate coins, turned out to be ancient gold medallions, pearls, and rings. It’s the country’s gold find of the century believed to date back to 500 A.D. Norwegian law will reward both Erelend and the landowner for the find once the value is determined. All because he was exercising. It’s crazy!

The discovery reminds me of a parable Jesus told. The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went out and sold all he had and bought that field.” (Matthew 13:44) The kingdom of heaven – or kingdom of God – is so valuable that it’s worth more than anything here on earth. Nothing comes close in value. So don’t store up treasure on earth. “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:20-21) You can’t serve both God and money. You’ll love one more than the other. So give your heart fully to God and any treasure you find along the way.
