Financial Tests

Are you being tested financially?

In His great wisdom, God ordained that the perfecting of our faith and walk with Him should come by way of testing. He allows problems and circumstances to occur that will break our stubbornness, keep us dependent upon Him, and make us useful for His service. We may react to the pressures that accompany testing by questioning God or trying to escape. Sometimes we’re tempted to blame God or feel abandoned and alone, but should we?

Naturally, there are times in our lives when we feel defeated and would like to get away from it all. If that happens to 40 or 50-year-olds, we often blame it on a midlife crisis. In reality, crises can come at any stage of life. The great preacher, Charles Spurgeon, said, “Many men owe the grandeur of their lives to their tremendous difficulties.” Until we come to the point of total dependence on the Lord, in good times or bad, we’re not really useful in His plan.

In James chapter 1, the brother of Jesus wrote: Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:2-5) When you experience financial testing, invite the Lord into your problems. Know that He will be with you, and He will use it for good, no matter what happens.
