Formula for Success
What’s your formula for success?
J Paul Getty said his formula for success was to rise early, work late, and strike oil. Warren Buffett followed two rules: #1 Never lose money. #2 Never forget rule #1. Now according to the prophet Micah, the Christian formula for success is to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. True justice proceeds from the heart through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. United with mercy and humility, justice requires action beyond defending the rights of the oppressed and condemning the wrong. It demands courage and complete dependence on the Lord by refusing the easy and most profitable way of living. It rests on a foundation of Biblical principles that affect our pocketbooks and actions in every area of our lives.
Recognizing the mercy God has extended to us, we should be motivated to show mercy through justice in a world that desperately needs it. Do you treat others with impartiality, refusing to show favoritism to those who will bless you? Do you treat others with dignity remembering they are created in the image of God? Do you obey the laws and honor the governing authorities that God has set in place? Do you steward your resources to bless the poor and oppressed? Do you pay what things are worth or do you intentionally rob others of their due? Let’s heed the words of Micah, to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God!” in all that we do.
