Give What You Can Afford
Give what you can afford!
The pressure of the world, traditions, and sometimes from our own family members may cause many to overspend during the holidays. Even Christians, who know better, make excuses to compromise the financial principles that they’ve been taught. They treat His money like their own. Stewards have the responsibility to exercise patience and self-control even during the holidays! You see, our actions are rooted in our beliefs. Our financial house will either be built on sand or rock according to our beliefs. Both the house on sand and the house on the rock will get tested, but only one will endure the storms.
God wants you to experience the freedom and peace that comes from self-control. You can accomplish this by being grateful and setting limits on what you spend. This enables you to shop wisely and give joyfully. Our Savior was born in a manger. When the time came for his purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. They held the priceless Son of God in their arms – the lamb who would take away our sin. They obediently offered what they could afford: two turtledoves. A humble gift but one they could afford.
This Christmas, give what you can afford. Don’t let the pressure of others lead you into debt! Trust the Lord and rely on His Spirit as you exercise patience and self-control. Focus on Him and apply his principles so you can enjoy the season free of financial stress!
