Grocery Shopping Trends
Grocery shopping has changed.
Axios.com reports that consumers shop at multiple grocery stores to save money and find exclusive items. The reason? Inflation and the increase in private store brands. The Wall Street Journal reported that we’ve moved to “treasure-hunt grocery shopping.” We have more options than ever before and the opportunity to take advantage of better deals. Many people find it convenient to shop for groceries online. While in DC recently, my wife talked with a young mom on the elevator who had ordered her groceries to be delivered to the hotel from Walmart. Talk about convenient!
The rise in budget-friendly store brands has been a win for retailers. Customers are turning to these in an effort to save money. Walmart’s new “Better Goods” brand focuses on affordability and food trends. 300-plus products will be introduced during this year. Four of their private brands fall in our nation’s top 10 consumer packaged food brands and consumables. Aldi, a popular discount grocer, sells more than 90% private label products. It’s expected to become even more attractive as it expands services. Now, to cut the cost of food in your household budget, follow these tips:
• Plan your meals to minimize shopping trips.
• Know grocery prices. Stock up on sales and plan your menu around them.
• Makes meals from what’s in your pantry or freezer.
• Eat the leftovers – or freeze them for later.
