How to Prepare for Gray Swans – Part 2
Are you preparing for gray swans?
This week I’m addressing the topic of gray swans. These are defined as obvious dangers that we tend to ignore. You can prepare for them by increasing your capacity to weather storms and freeing yourself of encumbrances. Reduce your vulnerability to loss by diversifying your investments. Don’t conform to the world’s philosophies. Instead, live as if you’ll lose everything; it all belongs to God and is only temporarily entrusted to you. Our treasures are laid up in Heaven, where they cannot be lost. This is a promise to those who love God and build His Kingdom, not their own. Live knowing that loving people is more important than loving money. Investing in others will pay eternal dividends.
Remember when the famine spread throughout the Roman world, as prophesied by Agabus in Acts 11? The disciples agreed that their best response was to send help in spite of their personal risk. Live knowing that life is a vapor. Make it your goal to serve others and be a fruitful disciple, and you’ll find purpose and joy no matter what happens to the economy. Find good and godly purposes for the pain or suffering you may experience. Nothing is wasted in God’s economy. He turns it all to good when we love Him and are called to His purposes.
Finally, live in the moment. Shed the shame of the past and the paralyzing fear of the future. Replace these with confidence in God’s faithfulness. It will be richly rewarded. To learn more about this topic, check out Chuck’s book Seven Gray Swans on Amazon.
