Investing in Your Children – Part 1
Are you investing in the lives of your children?
There are no guarantees when raising children. To do our best, we need to wisely steward our money, time, and talent. As the father of four grown sons, I believe intentionality far outweighs hoping for the best. If things aren’t going well today, ask the Lord for help to impact their lives. Start by investing time in praying for the wisdom, love, and strength to raise them for God’s glory. How about teaching them the value of work? It’s the first step of the virtuous cycle. What are their interests? What skills do they need to develop? Do you or other family members have marketable skills they can learn from? My second son was an Eagle Scout who became a Ranger Medic. One day, he called and jokingly complained that I hadn’t taught him the “3 Essential Man Skills”: how to drive a stick shift, how to back a trailer, and how to ride a motorcycle. We both laughed, but the truth is, I knew how to do all of those things. I had just failed to teach them before he left home!
Psalm 127:3-4 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.” Investing in your children creates loyalty and strength. They develop self-confidence and a healthy identity in an environment of love and acceptance. Model wise financial management and you’ll equip them to carry it into the future. The time and money you invest today will pay dividends for generations to come.
