Savings Day – Controlled By Money?
Are you controlled by money?
Did you know that the majority of Jesus’ warnings were to the wealthy, not the poor? And here’s why. Most of our anxieties and worries are not related to the lack of things but, rather, to the loss of what we have. We don’t want to lose what we already own. So we compromise God’s Word to hang on to our comfortable way of life. Now I’m not saying you should sell your house and car and empty your 401(k), but are you willing to? The Rich Young ruler was not, and went away sad. So check your priorities. It’s not what you have that matters, but what has you.
God teaches through His Word that real abundance is not found in material things. True wealth comes from knowing Him, but pursuing money first and God second will only bring sorrow. 1 Timothy 6:10 says, “… the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” On the other hand, a vibrant relationship with the Lord will never disappoint. He’s our abundance – now and in the days to come. Do you find that money, or the pursuit of money, controls your life? Break free from that taskmaster and make God, and God alone, the authority for your life. When you put Him first, you’ll experience true abundance. You’ll have surplus and margin and the ability to serve others. You’ll be able to experience the joy of giving and receive blessings that far outweigh any material possessions.
