The Danger of Procrastinating
Are you a procrastinator?
Procrastination is a part of human nature that we must have inherited at the fall. It’s a habit of postponing matters that don’t seem urgent. With all good intentions, the foolish run the risk of waiting until it’s too late. “I’ll get to it tomorrow.” Or, “I’ll get around to it when I have time.” Now when the car loses power and stops before you can reach a gas station, that’s too late. When rain comes through your leaky roof and ruins your floors, that’s too late.
In the Parable of 10 Virgins, we read how the foolish women waited until it was too late. They had every intention of attending the wedding banquet, and they appeared committed in many ways, but they failed to exchange their money for the oil that was needed. That cost them eternal life! By the time they purchased oil, the banquet door was closed and the bridegroom told them, “I don’t know you.”
We know Christ will return as he promised, but many postpone getting serious about their commitment to Him and His kingdom. Whether it’s handling money His way or trusting Him as your Lord and Savior, don’t wait. The Scripture teaches us, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” (Matthew 25:13) and “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.” (Hebrews 3:15) This is an admonition to take action when you have the opportunity. If you’ve never committed your life to Christ, He’s waiting for you. Simply ask and he will give. seek and you will find, knock and the door will be open. If you’re a believer but haven’t surrendered everything to Him, do it today.
