The Key to Financial Well-Being

Are you financially well off?

Financial well-being is not about accumulating money and possessions. It’s about how you use them. If we’re not careful, we’ll be convinced of the need for more, bigger, or better. That’s why renewing our minds on truth is essential. In Matthew 6 Jesus warned: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also… No one can serve two masters. Either you’ll hate the one and love the other, or you’ll be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Now this very same teaching is repeated in another gospel account. Listen to Luke 12. Jesus said, “Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Then in Hebrews 13 we learn, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'” Then Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes, “I’ve seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners or lost through some misfortune.” You see, ultimately, financial well-being is found in building His kingdom, not our own.
