The Value of Friends

Do you have close friends?

Friendships are a blessing from the Lord. They bring me happiness, wisdom, encouragement, and laughter while stretching me to be my best. They’re a comfort during stressful times and bolster me with courage when fear threatens my peace. They add a level of accountability and discipleship in my busy life. Quality outweighs quantity. Research shows that the average person has 3 to 5 very close friends, 10 to 15 people in their circle, and over 100 acquaintances in their social network. Friends in Christ make you a better person. They willingly speak truth in your life and expect the same from you. They are those with whom you can be completely transparent without the worry that they might reject you.

Did you know there are science-backed benefits of quality friendships? A trusted friend or community makes you healthier, happier, and improves your mental health. Immunity is strengthened along with purpose and a longer life. Plus, friends are also linked to financial strength! It’s been said that “your network is your net worth.” Friends impact our financial well-being in countless ways. They’re helpful when seeking employment or a career change. They can counsel us in handling money, running a business, and connect us to a broader network of other individuals. Friends pray with and for us. They encourage, sharpen, help, and strengthen us. David and Jonathan’s friendship in the Bible is a beautiful example. You never know when a friend or friend of a friend might serve you in your time of need.
