Three Essentials of Faithful Stewards
Are you faithful?
Faithful means loyal, true, accurate, dependable, and steadfast. It’s a term most often used when describing our commitment in a close relationship. It’s impossible to be partially faithful. We either are or we aren’t. “Faithful” is a word that describes the unchanging character and love of God. The Bible never establishes a standard of success when it comes to money or material possessions, but it does require us to be faithful to God when stewarding resources. We have a responsibility to be faithful to Him with all that He provides. The more possessions we have, the greater our responsibility to be faithful.
Now there are three essentials of a faithful steward: First, we’re to serve God not money. Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” We’re to provide for our family. According to 1 Timothy 5: 8, “Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” We’re to multiply resources. In Genesis 1:28, God blessed Adam and Eve and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Life is fulfilling when we’re faithful!
