Tips For a Good Job Interview

Are you looking for a new job?

Your work is an opportunity to glorify the Lord.  That’s good motivation to prepare for an interview with the hope of being remembered at hiring time. Consider these tips for making a great impression during the interview. Eye contact, a firm handshake, and a good posture are essential. Dress nicely, professionally and modestly. Avoid distracting jewelry, hairdos, or strong perfume. Next, come alert and prepared. Arrive 10-15 min early with extra copies of your resume. Prepare ahead by doing some research about the industry and the interviewer.  Demonstrate interest with informed answers and pertinent questions. Be able to state what attracts you to the company, how the position fits your career desires, and how the work of company leaders inspire you. Be humble and have a good attitude. Appearing arrogant or too eager communicates that you may be hard to manage. Listen well and do not interrupt. Take notes and show appreciation to the interviewer. He or she could be the link to another company and you may cross paths in the future.

Finally, email or write a thank-you within 24-48 hours, and if you’re faced with disappointments, don’t get discouraged. Pray, keep looking and network among those you know in the industry. Update your skills, take online classes and work with a mentor. Remember, the advice in Psalm 27:14: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
