When Life Is Hard
What do you do when life gets tough?
It’s been a wonderful year, but it’s also been one of my hardest. I lost my mother, my wife’s step-dad, and several dear friends. In addition, two of our relatives are also fighting cancer.
We’ve had other challenges as well, but God’s worked miraculously in ways we could never imagine. Undoubtedly, Emmanuel has been with us.
Now my wife Ann and I share an evening devotion and we pray together before we go to bed.
In the mornings, before we start our day, we give thanks and pray for things on our heart. I often quote Lamentations 3:21-23 from the prophet Jeremiah:
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I’ve come to realize that no matter what circumstances we face, our joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment will increase if we completely trust in the Lord.
We can face the day with hope in our hearts knowing that God loves us. He’s wise, faithful, and rich in mercy.
Maybe you’re burdened with debt, an illness, or some darkness. Cling to Christ. No financial, physical or emotional trial is too big for Him. He’s able to meet your every need.
Don’t let trials rob you of hope. Sometimes God allows us to suffer so we’ll grow in dependence, compassion, and humility. He is Emmanuel – God With Us!
